I'm Alex.

I build solutions, not features.

Spent 6 years working on systems that can't fail.

Now I build software that never will.

Current Mission

A decade in aerospace taught me to catch problems before they become disasters. Now I build products that automate the boring stuff, so that you don't have to.

Free Bluesky analytics for network growth

Built this because I was curious about engagement patterns on Bluesky. Completely free, no tracking, just useful insights. The #buildinpublic community helped validate this was worth building.

Free password generator

Six different password types because security shouldn't be boring. Rate limiting, analytics dashboard, custom templates. Built to understand FastAPI better, kept because it's genuinely useful.

Joke-rating app built in 24 hours

Sometimes you need to build something fun. 24 hours from idea to deployment. Anonymous voting, real-time leaderboard. The #buildinpublic community loved watching this come together in real-time.

Real-time weather updates

A Django practice project that became my daily driver. Clean forecasts, current conditions, intuitive design. Built to learn, kept because it works reliably.

Language cognition experiment

Read about how scrambled text affects reading speed. Had to build it myself to test the theory. Perfect example of systems thinking applied to linguistics.

How I Work

Core principles that guide my projects

SRS-TLS-001
Purpose
Profit
I don't start with MRR in mind.
I build things that solve real problems I've encountered. If it's useful, the business model follows naturally. I love creating value I'm proud of, regardless of immediate returns.
SRS-TLS-002
Systems
Symptoms
Each problem has many solutions.
Where others see blockers, I see design constraints. My degree taught me that elegant solutions come from understanding the whole system, not just patching the broken parts.
SRS-TLS-003
Right
Rushed
Build it right the first time.
I'd rather spend an extra day building it right than a week fixing it later. The #buildinpublic community keeps me accountable by watching the process, not just the outcome.
SRS-TLS-004
Learn
Launch
Every failure teaches something valuable.
I share mistakes as openly as wins because that's where the real insights live. Each project teaches me something new about users, systems, or myself.

My Journey

Critical milestones in the journey from aerospace to digital products

PHASE 01

The Aerospace Years

MEng Spacecraft Engineering from Southampton. Spent years designing propeller control systems for the MA700 aircraft, building network analysis tools for Boeing 777X systems, and debugging satellite telemetry for O3b constellations. Real systems where failure isn't an option.
Key Systems
Boeing 777X, O3b satellites, propeller control systems
PHASE 02

The Transition

Started freelancing while still doing aerospace work. Contributed to Brandwatch (processing billions of social conversations) and Nocodelytics (Webflow's recommended analytics). Realised I love building digital products as much as physical systems.
Key Systems
Brandwatch, Nocodelytics, full-stack migration work
PHASE 03

The Maker Era

Discovered #buildinpublic and everything changed. The community provided validation, feedback, and accountability I never had building in isolation. Now I build things because they need to exist, sharing the journey every step of the way.

Random facts that define my days

Always Looking Up

Flight

Forever captivated by the skies and stars, that same curiosity now draws me toward the cockpit of a Piper or Cessna. Guided by Dr. Angelo Grubisic, whose infectious passion for aerospace and fearless pursuit of flight left a lasting mark on everyone he taught. Angelo had a rare gift of making the impossible feel achievable - which to this day still makes engineering feel like my greatest adventure.

Amphibious Aspirations

Swimming

A university taster session sparked my competitive swimming journey. I spent my degree swimming rigorously and serving two years on the committee. A decade later, I’m a competitive Masters swimmer that broke the 25-second barrier by just one hundredth of a second, and still chasing sub-24 glory.

Progressive Polyglot

Languages

Fluent in four languages, with Norwegian and Greek on the side. Continuously expanding my skills, Dutch, German, and Portuguese are on the wishlist, while discovering the nuances, idioms, and humor that each culture brings.

Home Fermentation

BUBBLES

Crafting traditional and experimental fermented goods. Passionate about kefir, kimchi, and mead, while also experimenting with kombucha and vinegar. Always exploring new flavors, techniques, and the science behind living cultures.

Beats and Bites

Scripting

Lifelong guitarist and part-time chef. Grew up on Queen, The Beatles, and Simon & Garfunkel. Played in three rock bands and the school jazz orchestra. Spent two years DJing at University, and now find comfort in jazz of all kinds, fueling coding sessions with eclectic playlists (and many kiwis).

Masters in Motion

Momentum

Fascinated by peak performance and mastery. I dissect MasterChef techniques and Olympic strategies for fun, and I've backed Jannik Sinner since day one. Uncovering the routines, focus, and mindset that turn talent into true craft is what makes this journey exciting.
